Follow Athletes, Academies and Organizations

Follow adult athletes, academies and organizations to keep them in one private list. Nobody is told, and you choose whether others can follow you.

Applies to: Adult accounts · Adult athletes

Following is a private bookmark list. Follow the pages you care about, then find them again in one place. Open it from the My Activity menu, under Following.

What you can follow

  • Adult athletes. Use the Follow button on their profile page.
  • Academies. The button is on the academy page.
  • Organizations. The button is on the organization page.

Following is for adult accounts. Minors cannot follow anyone, and minors cannot be followed.

If you are not logged in, the Log in to follow link takes you to the login page first.

Don't see the Follow button?

Your own profile needs a birth date before you can follow anyone. If it is missing, the page shows Add your birth date to your profile to follow pages with an Edit profile link. Add the date there and the button appears. Following is for adults only, so a minor account does not get the button.

Athletes can be followed as athletes: the Follow button and the Accept follows setting are for accounts with the athlete role.

Nobody is told, nobody sees followers

The person or page you follow is never notified. There is no list of followers, no follower count and no "X follows you" message anywhere on Hajime. Only you see your own list. Your data export includes it.

Alerts and the digest

Following also gets you updates, sent to you alone. They never reveal anything an athlete has not made public.

  • Followed athletes registered: where an adult athlete you follow will compete, only if they show their upcoming schedule publicly.
  • Results: the placements of followed athletes once an event is completed, only if they show their results publicly. Corrected results appear once more, marked Results updated.
  • New events: events published by organizations you follow.
  • Academy medals: how many medals the academies you follow won, as counts, adults and youth separately.

A digest gathers these into one email and one summary in your notifications, linking to your Following page. You get nothing when there is nothing new. Choose Weekly (Monday, the default), Monthly (first Monday) or Never in Settings, Notifications, under Following alerts, where you can also switch single alert types off. The in-app summary is always on; only the email can be switched off. If you switch the email off, the entries are listed in the in-app notification instead.

If a rival you keep privately registers for an event, you get an immediate notification instead of waiting for the digest. Nobody is told.

The limit

You can follow up to 300 pages at once. When you reach the limit, Hajime tells you and you need to unfollow something before adding more.

Unavailable pages

Sometimes a page you follow stops being available. A suspended organization is one example. An athlete who is no longer an eligible adult profile is another. These show up in your list as Unavailable page, without a name. You can still unfollow them, which frees up room under your limit.

Choose whether others can follow you

If you are an adult athlete, other adults can follow your profile by default. To change that, go to Settings, press Manage Invitation Preferences and open Invitations & Privacy, then use the Accept follows switch.

When you turn it off, Hajime asks you to confirm first, because it removes your current followers. Turning it on again takes one click.

When you turn it off:

  • The button on your profile is replaced by a note that you don't accept follows.
  • Everyone who followed you is removed from following you, and nobody is told.
  • Other people's private rivalries about you are kept, and so are your own follows of others.

Turn it back on at any time. People who were removed do not come back on their own.

Deleted accounts

If you delete your account, your follows and the follows of your profile are deleted too.

To keep notes on people you want to beat, see Private Rivals and the Training Log.
