What to Do When Your Category Changes
The organizer edited a speciality you registered for. See what each notification means, what you can do, and how withdrawals and refunds work.
Applies to: Athletes · Guardians of minor athletes
Organizers can still fix an event's specialities after it is published. If that affects your registration, you get one notification explaining what happened. Its title names the event and the speciality. Nothing else about your event registration changes unless the notification says so.
What the notifications mean
Moved to a new category. The organizer changed the categories and you now compete in a different one. Your payment and your registration stay as they were.
Left without a category. Your old category no longer exists and no new one was chosen yet. You are still registered. The organizer assigns you one from the registrations list.
Moved to the waitlist. The organizer lowered the limit of the speciality and you are now on its waitlist. This only happens to unpaid, unconfirmed registrations. If a place frees up you move up the waitlist in order, as long as the brackets have not been generated yet. Once they exist nobody is promoted. If you are promoted, you get a notification too.
Withdrawn from a speciality. You are out of that speciality only. Your other specialities stay. A deleted speciality produces the same result and its own notification.
What you can do
- Open your registrations page from the notification and withdraw if the new category does not work for you.
- Contact the organizer if something looks wrong. While registration is open you can choose a missing category yourself (see Change your registration). After it closes, or for any other change, the organizer fixes it.
- If you paid and you are withdrawn, refunds follow the event's refund policy. The notification says so.
- An athlete who is already checked in is not withdrawn by a speciality change: the organizer has to undo the check-in first.
- If you were paying online when you were moved to the waitlist, the payment can still go through. Tell the organizer, who sees it on your registration.
Guardians
If you manage a minor's account and opted in to notifications, you receive a copy of each notification about your child.
Frequently Asked Questions
Did I lose my payment? No. A move keeps your payment. Refunds only come into play if you are withdrawn.
Why was I not asked first? The organizer reviews and confirms each change, then you are told. You can withdraw afterwards.
Why am I left without a category? Several categories could fit you, or none did, and the organizer has not chosen yet. While registration is open you can pick one yourself: open your registrations page and choose Choose your category. Contact the organizer if registration has closed.
Why is the notification in the organizer's language? These notifications are written in the language the organizer uses, not yours.
