Getting the Most Out of the Fight-Day Assistant

The Fight-Day Assistant is your personal event-day view of your next match, and this article explains Mat Mode, the reconnect banner, and how to read the freshness label.

Getting the Most Out of the Fight-Day Assistant

Applies to: Athletes

The Fight-Day Assistant is your personal event-day view: it shows your next match, its estimated start time, your queue position, and any schedule conflicts, all in one place. Before you start, it helps to have Hajime installed on your phone so you can get back to it in one tap between matches.

Mat Mode

When you are near the mat and want a bigger, distraction-free view of your next match, tap Mat Mode on the Next Match card. It expands the card to fill your whole screen with larger text, so you can read your match details, opponent, and countdown at a glance without pinching or squinting.

While Mat Mode is on, your screen stays awake and won't dim or lock automatically. This uses your phone's screen wake lock, so you don't miss a call because your screen turned off. Turning Mat Mode off (tap Exit Mat Mode) lets your screen go back to its normal sleep behavior.

Note: The screen staying awake only applies while Mat Mode is active on that page. If you leave the Assistant page or close the app, normal screen timeout resumes.

The Reconnect Banner

If your connection drops for a moment, whether from spotty venue Wi-Fi or walking out of signal range, you'll see a banner reading "Reconnecting: data may be stale" at the top of the page. This means the information you're looking at (queue position, estimated start time, conflicts) may no longer reflect the latest changes on the mat.

You don't need to do anything: the banner clears itself automatically as soon as your connection is restored, and the page updates with the current data. If matches are being called while you're offline, double-check your status once the banner clears, or check the mat board directly if you're unsure.

The Freshness Label

Below your next match status, you'll see a small label like "updated just now" or "updated 3 min ago." This tells you how long it has been since anything changed on your event, not just your specific match. It updates whenever a match starts or finishes anywhere on your mats, or when the mat schedule changes, so a low number means the page reflects a recent change even if your own match details look the same as before.

If the freshness label shows a long time and you're expecting an update soon, check your connection: an unusually stale label alongside a reconnect banner usually means the two are related.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Mat Mode drain my battery faster? Keeping the screen on does use more battery than letting it sleep. Turn Mat Mode off when you're not actively watching the mat if you're worried about battery life.

Why did my estimated start time change? Estimated start times shift as matches ahead of you finish faster or slower than planned. If it shifts by more than a couple of minutes, you'll see a badge next to your match status showing how much it moved.

The reconnect banner won't go away. What should I do? Check your Wi-Fi or mobile signal. If you have a connection but the banner persists, refresh the page.
