Why Hajime Asks for Your Birth Date and a Guardian
Under a certain age, which depends on your country, a Hajime account needs a parent or guardian before it can be used. Here is what you see and how to unlock it.
Applies to: Anyone signing up, and the parents of young athletes
After you sign up, Hajime asks for your birth date and your country. If you are under the minimum age for holding an account on your own, the account stays locked until a parent or guardian confirms they are responsible for you. Data protection law sets that age, and it varies by country.
The Minimum Age
The age is set by your country of residence:
| Country | Minimum age to use an account alone |
|---|---|
| Italy | 14 |
| Spain | 13 |
| France | 15 |
| Germany | 16 |
| United Kingdom | 13 |
| United States | 13 |
| Japan | 18 |
| South Korea | 14 |
| Any other country | 16 |
What You See
Welcome. The first screen after signing up asks for your birth date and country. You can't use the rest of Hajime until both are saved. They cannot be edited later, so enter them carefully.
You need a parent or guardian. If you are under the minimum age, this is the next screen. Enter your parent's or guardian's name and email address. They get a link to confirm. Once they confirm and link their own Hajime account to yours, the lock lifts and you are taken to the home page.
While the account is locked you can still log out, open your settings (including notification preferences and data export), delete your account and contact support from the Contact page. Any other page sends you back to the "You need a parent or guardian" screen.
For the Parent or Guardian
Open the link in the email. The page tells you who you are being asked to confirm as guardian of, and you choose Confirm consent if you are their parent or legal guardian. If you are not, choose I am not the guardian instead.
What happens next depends on your account:
- The address already has a Hajime account. It is linked to the athlete automatically and you do not need to log in first. Open My athletes to see the child. See The Family Area and Adding Your Child.
- The address has no account yet. The page offers to create a free one. Until you do, the athlete stays locked.
- Hajime could not link the account automatically. This happens, for example, when the account belongs to someone under the minimum age, or when it is the athlete's own account. The page says so. Log in with the account that uses the address from the email and open My athletes. If the child is not listed, ask the athlete or the academy to check the guardian details they entered, or contact support from the Contact page.
- You are logged in with a different account. The page says the link is for a different account. Log out and open the link again.
You can also skip the email step entirely. Create the child's profile yourself with Add my child: the child doesn't need an account of their own, and you can hand it over later.
Entered the Wrong Birth Date or Country?
They can't be changed in the app. Use the Contact page, choose the "other" topic, and tell support what needs correcting.

I am over the minimum age but still a minor. Is my account locked? No. Your account works normally. Events you enter that need a guardian's consent still ask for one: see Registering an Underage Athlete.
Does the minimum age depend on the event? No. The minimum age concerns holding an account. Each event has its own rules about minors and consent.
