What a Guardian Can and Cannot Do for a Child

A reference for linked guardians: the actions you can take for a child's Hajime profile, and what stays with the child, the organizer or support.

Applies to: Linked guardians (parents and legal guardians with a Hajime account)

A guardian is linked to a child when a parent adds the child through Add my child, or when a named guardian confirms by email with an address that has a Hajime account. Registering an Underage Athlete explains the difference between a linked and a declared guardian.

What You Cannot Do

  • Act for a child you aren't linked to. Every page under a child's name checks your link. If the link is gone, you are sent back to My athletes.
  • Meet an identity-attested requirement in the app. Events that ask for an organizer to check you in person need you at the desk.
  • Edit the birth date or country. Contact support.
  • Be guardian together with someone else. One guardian is on file per child. Contact support to change it.
  • Replace the guardian if someone else is linked. Only the linked guardian, or support, can end or replace the guardianship.

When Your Authority Ends

You keep acting for the child until they reach the age of majority in their country. It ends when you are removed by support, when you delete your account, or when the child comes of age. Hajime checks birthdays once a day, early in the morning (UTC), so your access can last up to about a day after the birthday. When it ends, the athlete and you (if you have a linked account) each receive a notice, and a managed child's academy is told too if the child has no email. When you delete your account, consent given under it is withdrawn and the organizers of the child's upcoming events are told so they can arrange a new guardian.

Notifications You Get

Copies of the child's notifications follow your own notification preferences and are on by default. To change them, open your account Settings, choose Manage Notification Preferences and switch Email or In-app on or off for each category, such as Registration updates or Payments. Turn a category off and you stop receiving those copies. Messages sent to a child without an email, such as payment receipts and bracket changes, go to you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I see my child's fight history? Yes, from the child's page. Opponent names appear as the child would see them.

Who else can see my child's profile? A minor's profile is visible to the child, you and administrators. Anyone else sees a private profile notice, and minors don't appear in athlete search.

What if the child registers on their own? A child with their own login can register themselves. Events that need a guardian's consent still ask for yours.
