Choose Who Can Watch Your Event Livestream

Decide who can watch your event's livestream: anyone with the link, signed-in users only, or people you share an access link with. Covers events with minors.

Applies to: Organizers

When your event is livestreamed, the Who can watch the livestream setting decides who can open the stream. You find it in the event form, under Policies, in the Conduct and broadcast group.

Every stream is recorded once it starts, whatever you choose here.

The options

  • Public: anyone can watch: anyone with the viewer link can watch, without an account.
  • Registered: signed-in users only: viewers need the link and a Hajime account. A viewer who opens the link while signed out is asked to sign in, then taken back to the stream.
  • Token gated: people with an access link: only people you send the viewer link to can watch. Hajime never shows the link on the event's live page. Pick this for a closed audience, such as the athletes' families.

Viewers always reach a stream through its viewer link. You copy it from the event's Video Access Tokens page, in the Share with Viewers box of each stream. With Public, the event's live page also shows a watch button next to each match being streamed. With Registered, only signed-in visitors see it.

If you change the setting during the event, new viewers follow the new setting straight away. Someone already watching can keep watching for up to 15 minutes.

Events with minors

A livestream shows the faces of everyone on the mat. Hiding a minor's name in results doesn't hide them on camera.

That's why a new event that allows minors starts at Registered when you leave the setting on Automatic. If you pick a value yourself, Public included, Hajime keeps your choice.

When the event is streamed, its public page tells visitors that it is livestreamed and recorded, and who can watch. Guardians see the same notice when they consent to their child's participation, and in their confirmation email. See Run an Event with Minors.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Registered mean only registered athletes can watch? No. Any signed-in Hajime user with the viewer link can watch. Use Token gated and share the link only with the people you want watching to keep the audience smaller.
